What are the GST rates after 22 September 2025?
Most goods and services now fall in two slabs, 5% and 18%. A 40% rate applies to luxury and sin goods. Special rates such as 0%, 3% for gold and silver and 0.25% for rough diamonds continue. Check the rate for your exact HSN or SAC code before invoicing.
How is GST split between CGST, SGST and IGST?
When the seller and buyer are in the same state, the tax is split equally into CGST and SGST (or UTGST). When they are in different states, the whole tax is charged as IGST.
How do I remove GST from a price that already includes it?
Divide the price by (1 + rate). For example, ₹1,180 including 18% GST is ₹1,180 ÷ 1.18 = ₹1,000 before tax, with ₹180 as GST.
Do I need GST registration?
Registration is required once your turnover crosses ₹40 lakh for goods or ₹20 lakh for services (lower limits apply in some special category states), and in some cases regardless of turnover, such as inter-state sales of goods or selling on e-commerce platforms.
